If you're like me, you sat for more than five hours in the Barrington High School auditorium last Thursday night and left a little punch drunk. As soon as the meeting ended, we started hearing the anger and frustration from Barrington residents. Most people felt the town council ignored them and had their minds made up well in advance. People have told me the five-hour meeting was a waste of time.
What do you think?

The five hour meeting was nothing more than a DOG AND PONY SHOW
ReplyDeleteI have heard that the Barrington Tax Assessor was a past employee of Vision. Any truth to that?
ReplyDeleteTown Council took the easy way out. The system is broken and our so called leaders closed their eyes. Note: their assessments were all lowered.
I believe that the Financial Town Meeting will be a bit different this year. No more rubber stamp increases. JUST SAY NO TO ANY TAX INCREASE!
The handling of the reval problems is a real eye opener for Barrington taxpayers. It is obvious now that the Barrington TC has no intention of dealing with any financial crisis. They wouldn't even know how to do it if they wanted to. Just ask any one of them for their ideas about how to eliminate 10% of the cost of running the town and watch for the blank stare that you will get in return. They are about to grant hefty salary bonuses to town employees this week - that should tell you something.
ReplyDeleteThese people are in place to advance their own names and their own pet projects, such as wind turbines with 20-year paybacks. If you are looking for real community leaders who are prepared to make difficult and practical decisions during periods of crisis, then you've got the wrong bunch. Taxpayers will have to fix the financial problem themselves or else it won't get done.
I still would like to know why the Tax Assessor's house on 7 Burr Ave was not listed on the Vision website. All council members, Town Manager, DPW Director, Police Chief, etc. all got reductions in their revaluations. That's why they let the Vision issue go by without questions.
ReplyDeleteThe next issue that the council will turn their heads is the LONGEVITY bonuses which costs the taxpayers over $100,000 per year. This is in ADDITION to the 3% pay increases that are already approved. That being said, many town employees will get 11% pay increases this year. How many of you out there are getting that much??? Ridiculous!!!! The Town Manager's increase totals $14,000 alone on top of his $137,000 salary. No wonder our taxes are through the roof! Everyone should storm the town meeting and fight this abusive conduct by challenging thier actions.
